COTE BISTRO + CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF
My best marks for a great ‘Night Out’ in a long time.
We, my wife and I, had tickets for the Novello Theatre - Cat On A Hot Tin Roof -.
Arriving early in Aldwych we chose to have a pre Theatre dinner. A few steps from the theatre I saw Cote and went straight for it. That is because I remembered a very good lunch, Rillettes and Steak Tartare, at Cote in Hays Galleria.
We had a great welcome and seated at a very nice table. Our friendly and professional waitress brought my wife a ‘Kir Royal’ as an aperitif,( not Champagne based ) at £3.95 a bargain and superb. The pre theatre menu is £11.70 for two courses. We both chose Bayonne ham with a superb celeriac remoulade, delicious. For our main course we chose the rump steak and cod goujons, both excellent. My cod goujons were just right and remained crisp even after a sprinkle of lemon juice, with a lovely tartare sauce. The restaurant was very pleasant, busy but not noisy. We shared a portion of Roquefort and Reblechon, sliced baguette and white grapes, and a lovely bottle of wine. Great ! My wife left her mobile phone on the table and we had to go back after the theatre to fetch it. The waitress immediately recognised her and with a big smile returned her mobile phone.
Now to the play = it was the best performance I have seen in years. James Earl Jones, Sanaa Lathan and Adrian Lester were superb and acted as if they were born for the roles they played. All in all absolutely a triumph – GO !!!!!!
