Michael Winner's Dining stars or a viewer's nightmare?

As I was writing and updating hotcatUK, I had the above program playing on the background and found myself increasingly agitated and "on edge".

Am I the only one who finds this type of program and Michael Winner himself cringe worthy?

See for yourself at http://www.itv.com/lifestyle/diningstars/

Is this an indication that food critics are the next celebrities? I thought that turning chefs into celebrities was bad, but turning a food critic into one is just over the top. For Christ's sake, this people's only "talent" is to be able to write, hardly something to worthy of admiration.

Although I'm a big fan of Come Dine With Me, I haven't gone near this poor-second of an offering. I know its all in the editing, especially when it comes to trailers, but it just seems like an excuse for Michael Winner to barge into people's homes, eat their food and then insult them. At least CDWM is genuinely interesting, as it's also a study in human interaction. This is just a vehicle for Michael Winner and is a lot less about the food and the other people involved.

So, while I think programmes of this nature can be done well...this just isn't.

I love this programme and find it hilarious but possibly for the wrong reasons. I admit, I love Michael Winner x x x

He's articulate, funny, charismatic, and lovable and above all, he is honest. I love honesty. If he doesn’t like something or some one ..... He will tell them direct!!

I must admit that the programme itself is pretty pants but it is funny

Michael is without a doubt a top food critic and you will find that all the people who dislike him tend to be people he has critiqued in a negative manner. His words can make or break a restaurant

Michael Winner = Annoying and loser, he makes money out of being stupidly silly, which is what most of these celebrity people, possibly learnt off Ainsley Harriot the most annoying of them all. Wont be tuning in to this programme so much more and better things to do to waste my time.

Though i am with Sonya with regards to CDWM, as they seem to inspire my wife to cook some interesting and sometimes amazing dishes, but they seem to repeat far to often as I i sit down on a Sunday afternoon going through programmes that have been recorded over the week.

I would rather watch Master Chef with people that want to showcase what they call cookery skills, some actually do look quite good, but i heard a runour off an old client that they do not actually cook the food in the restaurants as they have to have help doing this from the Chef s there. Interesting?!

As far as I am concerned this is just TV. It is about yet another 'lets fill the gap' with something the public might like. Michael Winner likes to be taken seriously yet his manner is 'stage acting' attention seeking, he is a film director after all. The way he shouts- Diiiiinaaaaaah- , for his assistant and several comments regards the places he visits , shows that for him it is just 'Television' . Anyone interested in cooking and food should purely watch -Raymond Blanc:Kitchen Secrets. That is if you want to learn from a master.
Do not upset yourself too much, Jose.

Winner is boring, rude and pissed off when nobody gives him any attention whatsoever. It's not about the people on the show....completely about him.

And I've found none of his critisicm to contain any constructive or meaningful substance whatsoever, it was good, bad, ok this is all he says.... no reasoning or reference to what his criticism is based upon!

Sadly there's nothing else on the TV so I feel forced to endure.
